The first high-speed rail, Beijing - Tianjin Line, was operated in 2008. By the end of 2018, 29,000 km (18,000 mi) high-speed rails link hundreds cities in 33 provincial-level administrative divisions, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Chengdu, Qingdao, Xiamen, Kunming, Xian, etc.
