Shanghai Railway Station (Chinese name 上海站, Shanghai Zhan) is located in Jingan District, northwest of downtown of Shanghai. Operated in 1908, this station was called as Old Shanghai North Station. In 1987, the North railway station was closedd, and a new railway station was built at the same place that called the new Shanghai railway station. In 2010, Shanghai Railway Station was expanded in order to co-operate with the opening of World Expo Shanghai 2010.
This station covers 97,000 square metres, and has 7 island platforms, 15 railway tracks. Shanghai Railway Station combines both ordinary passenger train station (denoted with letter Z/T/K) and high-speed train station(G/D/C series) that serves 198 high-speed trains and bullet trains per day, including Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway and Shanghai-Nanjing Rails.

Metro line 1, line 3 and line 4
Shanghai railway station can be reached by Metro Line 1, Line 3 and Line 4 of the Shanghai Metro system. Metro trains are mostly recommended public transport to get to or leave Shanghai Railway Station, including get to the bund, Hongqiao Airport and Pudong Airport
Platforms and tracks of metro line 1 are on B2, but platforms and tracks of metro line 3 and line 4 are on 1F. Although the station hall of three metro lines are on B1 Mezzanine, the transfer between Line 1 and line 3, 4 is actually quite long, because both metro stations are located on the opposite sides of the train station with a long tunnel connecting both platforms, metro line 1 is located on South Square, and line 3, 4 are located on North Square.
Passengers can make an interchange between metro line 3 and line 4 at platforms, but they need to buy new ticket to transfer Metro line 1
Subway Line 1: the first metro train is at 05:40 and the last is at 23:00
Subway Line 3: the first metro train is at 06:05 and the last is at 23:00
Subway Line 4: the first metro train is at 05:50 and the last is at 22:30

Departures
Step 1: Get to the entrance of Shanghai Railway Station by metro, Taxi, Bus or Car 45 minutes before train departure.
Step 2: Go through Security Check and real-name ID check to enter departure Hall by showing passport. If you take the metro to arrive at Shanghai Railway Station, you don't need to get through the security check again.
Step 3: Find the Boarding Gate (Ticket Check Gate). The gate No. will be in the confirmation email we send to you.
Step 4: Have a seat near the gate to wait for check-in and boarding. The boarding gate will be opened 20 - 15 minutes prior to the departure time.
Step 5: Ticket check. Please show your passport and confirmation No. to station staff to check in. The boarding gate will be closed 5 minutes before the train departs

Do you need to collect paper tickets?
Since Dec 2019, the electronic tickets have been available on most high-speed and bullet train routes from or to Shanghai Railway Station.
It means international travellers can show their passports, likes Chinese ID to check in and board the train directly, and don't need to collect the paper tickets at ticket office.

Arrivals
