Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport (IATA: TAO, Chinese Name: 青岛胶东国际机场) is located in Jiaozhou, a city under the administration of Qingdao, 48km northwest of Qingdao city centre and 11km eastsouth of Jiaozhou city centre. It opened on Aug 12, 2021 to replace Qingdao Liuting International Airport. At the same time, Liuting airport was closed. Construction of this new airport started on June 26 2015. And on Nov 12 2018, the new airport was named Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport.

Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport covers 478,000 square meters, and has two 3600 metres runways. Now there is only one terminal at Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport: terminal 1. Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 will be built in 10 - 15 years. As the 16th busiest airport in China, it will be able to handle 35 million passengers, 500,000 metric tons of cargo and almost 300,000 landings and takeoffs by 2025.

It will be the city's first 4F-class airport -- meaning its big enough to accommodate the world's largest commercial aircraft, including A380s and Boeing 787s -- making it a new transportation hub in Northeast Asia.

The terminal is shaped like a starfish, offering five connected concourses. This design helps reduce walking distances between the main check-in hall and the farthest gates in the 470,000-square-meter terminal to no more than 550 meters.
